Snowy Glenshee day 2

We awoke to a White White world this morning- fresh blankets of snow covering everything, and more falling from laden skies... Good news for the slopes! Once we'd breakfasted, (did we mention that the chef here used to cook for the Queen Mother??!) and the snow ploughs had cleared the road, we took off in our groups for the morning. The experience was quite different from yesterday- more challenging as the wind and falling snow meant more excitement! After a quick packed lunch we hit the slopes again- and despite good night's sleep last night the children ( and teachers!) are ready fir showers and hot chocolate! This evening we are playing games in the sports barn, hoping to stop our muscles stiffening!

It's been an incredible day - we are so lucky to live so close to such a stunning place!!

Glenshee Ski trip Day 1!

Wow! What an Amazing first day!! After a Smooth journey through to Compass Centre, we quickly unpacked and left for the slopes. Blue skies andblankets of snow greeted us at Glenshee, a few minutes drive from the centre. As soon as we had grabbed a quick lunch we split into groups and it was time to see if our Broader curriculum weeks at Bellahouston would pay off! All the skiers found their feet quickly and the boarders dud really well too! We were on the slopes for about two and a half hours- the evidence of how hard the children worked at their skiing is that they are in their rooms and mostly asleep- at half past ten!

More snow is forecast for tomorrow, ..... Follow this blog for nightly updates!!

Goodnight from Cedars school at Glenshee!

Days of the Year Song

Mrs Speirs commissioned Mr Jewell to write a tune to the rhyme:

30 days has September, April, June and November
All the rest have 31 expect February alone
It has 28 days clear and 29 on each leap year.

Here are the primary children singing it at assembly today:

We were very fortunate today to have Gordon Lyons from Clydebank College of Further Education working with us. It was very interesting and informative.

A Life Transformed

S1 and S2 had a visit from Lawrence Deary in their RME classes today. Lawrence was born and brought up in Port Glasgow. He came to speak to the pupils about the life he led as a heroin addict, and how, through the work of Teen Challenge, he was able to make a fresh start, completely free from all addiction. Lawrence wad an addict for eight years- it is eight years this month since he became a Christian- he has not touched drugs since then!

This lesson was part of a series of lessons in which pupils are tackling the moral issues faced by today's young generation, as specified in the Curriculum for Excellence.

The after school debating club took a secondary assembly this week. They talked about what they did in the club, the skills they learned and why they enjoyed it. They also demonstrated some of the activities they took part in. A house brick for all who took part. Well to done all who demonstrated that they're confident, effective contributors!

Cakes Alive!

Melissa today brought in a cake she had baked over the weekend. It was on a 'teddy bear's picnic' theme and looks stunning. By interval we should also be able to confirm that it tastes just as good! Well done Melissa! A definite brick in the house wall!
