And then moved on to a variety of improvisation activities and exercises to improve voice and expression:

Happy Birthday Fish!

Broader Curriculum fishing: Robert is 11 today and has crowned his birthday by catching a beautiful rainbow trout - his first fish! Rhys helped teach Robert how to kill the fish quickly using the 'priest'.
Well done Robert!

Mary's Meals

As a school we have chosen to support Mary's Meals as our charity this year. This morning, Richard came to speak to us about the work they do. Mary's Meals provide food for children at school in countries where lack of food prevents them from learning. The Scottish charity now provides over half a million meals every day, enabling children to learn, and then get jobs which allow them to feed themselves. Because the charity use locally sourced produce, they can feed a child for a year for as little as £6.50. Richard showed us footage of children in Malawi recording their meals. We feel humbled by their gratitude for such a small meal.

Watch this blog to see how we fundraise for Mary's Meals- Richard has given us some great ideas!

Broader Curriculum Fishing

Yesterday we began our Broader Curriculum fishing block for 2011. It was a great afternoon. We had two groups of children - one group had fished with us before and one group had never tried fishing before.
We had one fantastic catch from someone who hadn't fished before - David!
Well done David - catch of the week!

Drama

Drama students had a great afternoon today! We looked at how to portray character and emotions using our facial expression, body language and intonation. We also did a lot of improvisation activities as well as devising short dramas in groups.

Here are some photos of what we got up to:

Terrific tennis!

60 Glorious Years!

Our theme for assemblies this year is '60 Glorious Years.' As we anticipate the Queen's Golden Jubilee and the Olympics coming to London next summer, we will celebrate some of the people, events, inventions and stories that have made up the Queen's reign.

This week, middle school pupils have heard about World War 2 RAF fighter ace, Douglas Bader:

And primary and senior school pupils have looked at some of the toys and games that were invented during the 1950s and 1960s. We were surprised that some of the things we consider modern have actually been around quite a long time!

Parents Information Evening

Tonight we have a parents information evening in school. We are discussing current changes to the Scottish education system, particularly looking at how exams are changing.

We are also discussing with parents the exciting new 'middle school' structure in our school.
Both Mr Speirs and Mrs Speirs spoke to a large number of parents and relatives.

It was a hugely informative and enjoyable evening and we were delighted with the support from so many parents.

The whole school met together for the first time this year in the church as we are too big for the GP room now!

We sang the school song and Mrs Speirs addressed the school.
